What is a do-follow link? For those of you who may not be aware, I’ll give a brief explanation about that but if you already know what this means you can skip the next paragraph.

If you have been commenting on various sites/forums and submitting your site’s URL there with the hope of getting a link pointing back to your site, you should know that most of the sites use the “nofollow” attribute when displaying such links. This means that when search engines visit those sites, they will NOT consider it as a vote from that site to yours. Do-follow links pointing to your site, on the other hand, are real links with real value when it comes to improving your site’s search engine rankings.

What you need to do to get a do-follow link from this site

As a reader, you have to contribute actively by expressing your opinions in the form of comments in response to the posts/articles hosted on this site. The comments you post should be meaningful and should add value to the site.

When your contributions are amongst the topmost on this site (based on the count of eligible comments), your name will appear in the list of top commentators and it will have a do-follow link to the website URL that you provide at the time of submitting comments.

So what’s the concrete deal?

Well, there are two!

1) All-time top 10 List

The first one is an expression of gratitude to the all-time top 10 commentators on this site. Each of the top 10 commentators will get a do-follow link. The do-follow link will be going out from the top page of my site, which means they will not only be prominent to the visitors of this site, but will also get a share of the limited number of outgoing do-follow links from what will possibly be the one page on this site that will have the highest Google Pagerank.

Now, as of this writing, there is no Google Pagerank for this site. But I’m myself working on getting quality do-follow links to this site, so it won’t be long before Google rewards this site with a page rank. And when it does, as an all-time top commentator you stand to gain the benefits.

2) Recent top 5 List

The second one is an expression of gratitude to the recent short-term top 5 commentators on this site. For now, I am setting the short-term period to “the last 30 days”. That means if the number of eligible comments from you in the previous 30 days is amongst the top 5, you’ll be rewarded with a do-follow link. The link, in this case, will be going out from all individual post/article pages. The top page, archive pages, and other static pages will not have these links.

This might not matter much as of this moment when there is not a vast difference between the number of comments made by long-timers versus those made by recent readers, but it’s going to give a good opportunity to new readers in the future. Readers who are not long-time contributors won’t have to wait too long before they get rewarded for their contributions.

I’m thinking of increasing the number of commentators for this list also to 10 when the number of contributors grows significantly in the future.

Can a person be on both the lists?

Absolutely! If you are an all-time top 10 contributor and have been active in the recent 30 days, chances are high that you will be on both the lists. But do not worry if you are not on the all-time top 10 list yet, because if you are consistent in contributing your opinions, you’d get there some day. Remember “slow and steady wins the race”? Focus on the steady part of that old saying.

Why this sudden offer?

This has been on my list for a long time, but I never got to actually implementing it. It’s a long awaited moment for me and here it is, finally!

As a writer, I might try to cover a topic from various perspectives or just one particular perspective. But I’m very much aware that there can be so many different opinions and viewpoints to anything. When more readers comment, we will get to hear more opinions, which will help not just me but other readers too!
